Meet a Happy Space client, Debbie Wong

Every month we feature one of our amazing clients. It’s one of my very favorite parts of being a professional organizer: meeting and working with ambitious, creative women doing interesting work in Hong Kong.

Everyone has their own reason for getting our help. Hear in their own words about their experience getting organized with us.

Meet Deb

Deb - a Happy Space client

Meet Debbie Wong, co-founder of Dressing The Woman, a multi-service business built on their belief in the power of unlocking your authentic personal style! She’s a former TV food personality, (Asian Food Network) and now moving into artist management specializing in talent in F&B.

I first met Deb at an event and was instantly drawn to her and Nic’s philosophy for their personal styling service (more on Dressing The Woman later).

Deb wanted help in her cozy Hong Kong apartment that she shares with her husband and cat. Her objectives: tackle some clutter, create better flow, and get systems in place, especially in the kitchen and walk-in closet.

Why did you decide to hire us?

My space is small, and while I am relatively neat, there wasn’t dedicated spaces for my things (I just placed things wherever they fit) and clutter built up easily. I wanted to create a sense of flow, fluidity and ease in my daily routines.

How has the organization benefited you in your daily life?

Nassim really considered the “choreography” of my daily routine, and created not only an organised space, but systems that harmonised with my routine. I particularly look forward to my morning coffee and taking time to get ready in the mornings, and now even more so that my space is working for and with me :))

What is your favorite product that we sourced?

The magnetic spice rack that we put on our fridge. It’s so convenient to access and I loved personalizing it with labels that Nassim created. It’s a real space saver since it’s not taking up drawer or counter space.

What was the decluttering part like for you?

It was surprising, because I declutter fairly often, but there are ALWAYS things to get rid of. It was great to have a “third eye” in Nassim. It was a bit like therapy too— getting rid of things that feel like an old version of me, and making way for the new.

Describe your new happy spaces in one word.

Kitchen: efficient!

Walk in closet: joyful!

Anything else?

Dressing the Woman utilizes the Kibbe philosophy, developed by David Kibbe, which is a system that helps personal stylists determine an individual's body type and guide them in choosing clothing styles that enhance their natural features. The philosophy categorizes body types into different "Image Identities," each with its own set of recommended clothing lines, fabrics, and designs.

The main Image Identities include:

  1. Dramatic: Characterized by elongated lines, sharp angles, and a bold, striking presence. Clothing should be sleek, structured, and avoid excessive frills.

  2. Natural: Embraces a relaxed, casual, and unconstructed look. Fabrics are often flowing and textured, with an emphasis on comfort and earthy tones.

  3. Classic: Balanced and timeless, favoring clean lines and traditional styles. Neutral colors and well-tailored pieces are key for this body type.

  4. Gamine: Petite and youthful, with a preference for playful, quirky styles. Fitted clothing, bold patterns, and a mix of textures are typical recommendations.

  5. Romantic: Emphasizes femininity and softness, with a focus on curves and delicate details. Flowing fabrics, ruffles, and intricate patterns are common in this style.

Final Thoughts from Nassim

Deb and I have a lot of common ground when it comes to our services. She helps her clients create wardrobes that fully represent them, which often involves getting rid of items that are no longer needed. With our organizing service, especially for closet organization, we always assess what needs to be decluttered first.

Even though Deb has a very clear sense of her style, she too, like most of our clients, ended up decluttering a lot more than we anticipated. Most of us, on our own, do not have the headspace, time, or energy to do a full declutter. We might start out with a lot of stamina but motivation quickly wanes when you don’t have someone pushing you through the task. When you work with an expert, the whole process becomes faster and easier.
